JULY 18, 2015 SPEAKER
Joe Sweeney will be our July speaker for morning and afternoon. In the morning, he will talk about the entire legal process from pre-arrest through the end with time for questions.
TOPIC: From Arrest to Disposition – Moving a Case Through the System. Have you ever wondered how a case is initiated with a law enforcement agency and walked through the steps involved in taking it to court? Sweeney will reveal all about the initial appearance, arraignment, arrest charges vs. indictment charges, plea agreements, warrants, summons, grand jury vs. preliminary hearings, probation, and more. Most of his discussion will focus on adult felony cases, but he will touch lightly on how adult misdemeanor and juvenile cases differ.
In the afternoon he will be talking about how to derail a case with audience involvement.
About the speaker: Joe Sweeney works full time as an IT Manager at Juvenile Court, and has nearly eight years experience in Criminal Justice.
