By Larry D. Bergsgaard
Mr. Bergsgaard spent nearly thirty years in law enforcement. He began his career as a Special Agent with the U. S. Treasury and ended with retirement as a Special Agent In Charge at the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Mr. Bergsgaard had the good fortune to experience assignments including undercover and covert operations, international criminal conspiracies, SWAT, and executive protection details to name but a few.
In the Executive Protection presentation, Mr. Bergsgaard will describe some of his personal experiences while participating in protection details of Presidents, Vice Presidents, their families, political candidates, and other VIPs. He will discuss some of the behind-the-scenes preparations and commonly used strategies and tactics. While ever mindful of not disclosing details that would jeopardize any protectee, Mr. Bergsgaard will share a rare insider’s account of what we view on television when a protectee being escorted by those men and women wearing the ubiquitous sunglasses.
Upon retiring, Mr. Bergsgaard began a new adventure taking pen in hand and writing novels. To date, he has penned and published nine novels and a collection of short stories. The foundation of his stories is largely based upon his investigative experiences although the names are always changed to protect the guilty. During his presentation, Mr. Bergsgaard will examine an account from his novel, Next Year In Jerusalem, when the First Lady and her son are attacked by terrorists.
